About Bethel Baptist Church
Bethel Baptist Church is a Baptist congregation in Birmingham’s Collegeville community with roots dating to its organization on March 27, 1904, under Reverend P. M. Johnson. Its history includes Reverend Milton Sears’s pastorate from 1916 to 1938, during which a modern church edifice was completed in 1926, and Reverend Chester Laster’s ministry beginning in April 1942, when the church’s indebtedness was liquidated. The church also remembers being bombed three times during the pastorate of Reverend Fred L. Shuttlesworth. Today, Bethel offers contemporary and traditional worship and provides ministries for children and youth, including Bethel Summer Camp / Summer Learning for kindergarten through sixth grade.
