About United Methodist Church of Chugiak
United Methodist Church of Chugiak is a Methodist congregation in Chugiak with roots in the early development of the area. The church was chartered on February 13, 1954, by thirty-eight people along the Old Glenn Highway. In 1959, it obtained 13 acres from BLM, and the first services in the present building were held in October 1961. The sanctuary was built in 1965, supported by member pledges along with a grant and loan from the National Division of the Board of Global Ministries. In 2000, the church added a 17,000-square-foot expansion with office space, classrooms, a choir room, and a Community Center.
