About Saint Joseph Sisters
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, headquartered in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia with a presence in El Segundo, California, represent a Catholic religious congregation with roots stretching back to seventeenth-century France. Founded on the charism of uniting neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God, the congregation has evolved from its origins in war-ravaged Le Puy to become a community of more than 500 sisters engaged in spiritual and corporal works of mercy across twelve states. Their ministries have historically encompassed education, healthcare, orphan care, and community aid services, reflecting their foundational commitment to addressing urgent challenges facing the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Today, the Sisters of Saint Joseph continue this legacy through prayer, advocacy for nonviolence as gospel witness, and partnership with associates and lay collaborators who share their mission of incarnating uniting love in the world.
