About Zen Mountain Center
Yokoji Zen Mountain Center is a fully accredited Zen Buddhist training center founded in 1982 by Taizan Maezumi Roshi in the San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California. Under the direction of abbot Tenshin Fletcher Roshi since 1995, Yokoji welcomes people from all spiritual traditions and walks of life to practice Zen Buddhism. The center offers a regular daily practice schedule, introductory zazen classes held every Sunday morning beginning at 9:00 AM, silent meditation retreats (sesshin) ranging from two to seven days throughout the year, and two intensive training periods annually. Located on 160 acres of wilderness and operating off-grid with solar and wind power, Yokoji provides opportunities for both residential training programs and overnight or weekend stays. The center blends Soto and Rinzai Zen traditions, incorporating both koan study and Shikantaza practice under Tenshin Roshi's guidance.
