What to Expect: A First-Time Visitor's Guide to First Congregational Church of Oakland

Dress Code: First Congregational Church of Oakland (FCCO) has a casual and inclusive dress code. Feel free to wear whatever makes you comfortable, whether that's jeans and a t-shirt or a more formal outfit. The focus is on welcoming all who enter through the doors.

Service Format: FCCO's Sunday services typically last around 60 minutes. The service includes a mix of hymns, prayers, scripture readings, and a sermon delivered by the pastor. Visitors are welcome to participate as much or as little as they feel comfortable.

Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome to receive communion, regardless of church membership.

After the service, there is often a time of fellowship with coffee, tea, and light refreshments in the fellowship hall. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the friendly FCCO community.

Tips for Visitors: - Arrive a few minutes early to find a seat and get settled. - Greeters will be stationed at the doors to welcome you and provide any assistance you may need. - Hymnals and Bibles are provided in the pews. Large print versions are also available. - Feel free to participate as much or as little as you'd like during the service. - If you have children, there is a well-staffed nursery available, as well as a children's program during the sermon. - Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to the pastor or other congregants after the service. The FCCO community is warm and welcoming.
