About St Barnabas Episcopal Church
Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church in Pasadena is the oldest historically Black Episcopal church family in the San Gabriel Valley, celebrating its centennial in 2023 with a rich legacy dating back to its founding on June 16, 1909. The church welcomes all people into its community of radical acceptance and beautiful worship, serving Jesus Christ through biblically based study and generous service to Northwest Pasadena and West Altadena. Saint Barnabas draws members from African American, Afro-Caribbean, and Latin American backgrounds, united in their mission to build the Beloved Community. The congregation gathers for full Sunday services at 9 a.m., where they use the Book of Common Prayer, enjoy hymn accompaniment from their music minister and choir, and hear sermons from their priest and preaching team. Visitors are invited to participate in person or online via Facebook Live, and are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the church pantry.
