About Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá
Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá is an active Catholic parish in San Diego and a major historic site in California. Founded by Saint Junípero Serra on July 16, 1769, it was California’s first mission and is known as the “Mother of the Missions.” The mission was relocated to its present site in 1774.
