About Congregation of Sherith

Congregation of Sherith Israel is a historic Jewish congregation in San Francisco, founded in 1851 and part of the city’s life since that time. It describes itself as an inclusive, multi-generational congregation. Children and families are served through Sherith Israel Preschool and Studio @ Sherith Israel, a program for children in Pre-K through 7th grade. The congregation also supports community care through HaMotzi and Chicken Soupers, volunteer programs that feed people every Sunday. Its traditional worship style is rooted in Jewish congregational life while its programs provide ways for children, youth, adults, and volunteers to take part.
