About Phillips Chapel CME Church
Phillips Chapel CME Church is a Christian Methodist Episcopal congregation serving Santa Monica, California. The church describes itself as multicultural and traces its beginning to 1905, when it was established at Hull’s Hall on Third Street. It now meets at 4th and Bay Streets in a building the congregation says was originally a Washington School structure before being moved and renovated into the church. Phillips Chapel says it is the oldest C.M.E. church built on the west side of the Mississippi. Rev. Gwendolyn Curry was appointed pastor in 2024.
