About Pacific Diwan Coastal Society
Pacific Diwan Coastal Society, also known as Stockton Gurdwara, is a historic Sikh gurdwara in Stockton. Founded as the Pacific Coast Khalsa Diwan Society by Sant Teja Singh in 1912, it is described by the gurdwara as the oldest temple in the United States and the birthplace of Sikhism in America. Prayers first commenced on the gurdwara grounds on October 24, 1912. The gurdwara also has a notable place in Indian independence history through its direct link to the Ghadar Party. Bhagat Singh Thind was a member, and Dalip Singh Saund served as secretary before being elected to Congress.
