About First Christian Church
First Christian Church in Vallejo is a Disciples of Christ congregation with roots reaching back to an 1899 gathering of women. The church built its first permanent building on Virginia Street in 1907, and its current facilities were completed in 1944. Its history includes electing women as elders beginning in 1959 and publicly declaring itself Open and Affirming in 1994, becoming the first congregation in Vallejo to announce support for LGBTQ+ community members in that way. The congregation’s identity is shaped by its long local presence and its commitment to inclusion.
