About Hamden Plains United Methodist
Hamden Plains United Methodist Church, located on Church Street in Hamden, Connecticut, is a diverse and welcoming community united in Christ with over 200 years of history dating back to 1813. The congregation began when seven faithful members gathered in a home and were led by a woman named Sybil Tuttle, an unusual position of leadership for that era. The present building, constructed after a fire destroyed the previous church in 1918, was dedicated in 1920 and features beautiful stained glass windows bearing local family names. Today, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Cleaven Johnson, Jr., the church opens its hearts, minds, and doors to visitors as a warm and friendly place to worship, serve, and grow in faith. The church emphasizes sharing God's love by creating a safe and welcoming community and connecting people's needs with God's power through Christ.
