About Georgetown Ministry Center
Georgetown Ministry Center is a multi-denominational organization founded in 1987 in response to homelessness in the Georgetown neighborhood. Born from the tragic death of a man named Freddy, who died alone in a phone booth in 1984, the center was established through collaboration among local congregations, Georgetown University, and the business community. GMC serves approximately 1,000 individuals experiencing chronic homelessness annually through its Drop-In Center, Street Outreach program, and Winter Program. The organization is guided by values of community, dignity, love, and stewardship, operating as a safe and welcoming environment where vulnerable individuals are treated with respect and supported toward stable housing.
