About New Bethel A
New Bethel A is an African Methodist Episcopal church in Lakeland with a long local history. The congregation’s history says services were first held in the home of Dan Tillis Threets before a church building was purchased in 1916. Trustees purchased the church lot on November 24, 1916, and groundbreaking for New Bethel began on June 2, 1927. Construction on the current sanctuary began on May 21, 1982, and it was completed in 1984. The church later marked the liquidation of more than $1.5 million in financial obligations on November 17, 2002. Reverend Dr. Nathan Musokanji Mugala is listed in the church’s leadership biography.
