About Temple Israel
Temple Israel in Valdosta, Georgia has served the local Jewish community since its official incorporation in 1908, growing from early immigrant families who established a tight-knit congregation committed to traditional Jewish practice. The synagogue, constructed in 1919 and dedicated on Rosh Hashanah in 1920, represents a remarkable achievement for a small community and continues to sustain religious, educational, and cultural activities throughout South Georgia and surrounding areas. Led by a full-time rabbi, the congregation welcomes all members of the Jewish faith and maintains an open, non-denominational approach to membership. Services include Friday night Shabbat at 7:30 p.m. followed by light refreshments, and Saturday morning Torah and Kabbalah study sessions at 10:00 a.m. The community remains active in celebrating Jewish life cycle events, festivals, and fostering good relations with the broader Valdosta area.
