About United Community Church
United Community Church in Hilo, Hawaii, is a United Church of Christ congregation with deep roots in Hawaii's Christian history, having originated as the Hilo Chinese Church in 1896. Founded by missionary leaders and community members including Emma Clark and Wong How, the church is part of a progressive Protestant tradition that began when Congregational missionaries arrived in the Hawaiian Islands in the 1820s. Today, United Community Church welcomes visitors and new community members with open arms to worship together at their location on the corner of Kinoole and Mohouli Streets. The congregation carries forward a legacy of service and spiritual growth rooted in both its historic Hawaiian-Chinese heritage and contemporary Christian witness.
