About Sisters of St Joseph of
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with roots tracing to 17th-century France, now serving with approximately 500 members across twelve states. Based in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia with a presence in Honolulu, the Sisters embody their founding charism of unioning love—connecting neighbor with neighbor and all creation with God. Since arriving in Philadelphia in 1847, they have ministered in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community aid services, responding generously to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Today, the Sisters continue their mission of addressing urgent social challenges, standing in solidarity with vulnerable and marginalized populations while inviting associates and lay partners to join them in their work of incarnating Gospel love.
