About Koloa Jodo Mission
Koloa Jodo Mission is a Buddhist temple founded in February 1910 by Rev. Jitsujo Muroyama and Japanese immigrant supporters, serving the Koloa community on the island of Kauai. The temple belongs to Jodo Shu, the Pure Land School of Buddhism, which emphasizes the teaching of Honen Shonin from 1175. This tradition centers on the blessing of Amida Buddha, the Buddha of Infinite Life and Light, and focuses on the practice of calling Amida Buddha's name (Namu Amida Butsu) as a path to salvation. The temple welcomes visitors to participate in services and community functions throughout the year, including seasonal celebrations and observances. Today, Koloa Jodo Mission continues as one of thirteen Jodo Shu temples serving members and communities across the Hawaiian islands.
