About Grassroots Church
Grassroots Church is a Missionary Church congregation located in Pahoa, Hawaii, that has been serving the Puna community since 2006. The church began in a living room with a vision to see Jesus bring freedom, healing, and joy to the peoples of Puna and the world, and has since grown to hold Sunday worship services at 10 a.m. at the Tin Shack Bakery property. Services feature rhythmic music, Scripture teaching, group discussion, and communion, with a welcoming environment where visitors are encouraged to investigate the teachings of Christ without pressure or expectation. The church is led by a team of bi-vocational pastors, Matt Purvis and Steve Schaefle, who practice shared leadership and emphasize discipleship, community care, and the inclusion of families with children in worship gatherings.
