About Roberts Temple Church Of God
Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ is a historic congregation on Chicago's South Side with deep roots in American civil rights history. Founded by Bishop William Matthew Roberts, the church served as a place of healing and hope for the community and played a significant role in sharing the tragedy of Emmett Till with the world during his funeral in 1955. The church has been recognized as both a National Monument and part of the National Park System, making it the only Church of God in Christ in the world with this distinction. Under the pastoral leadership of Elder Cleven Wardlow, Roberts Temple continues its legacy of faith and service. The congregation is actively engaged in preservation efforts to restore the church to its 1955 condition and remains a cornerstone of the community and an important part of American history.
