About St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church is a Catholic parish in Crystal Lake with roots reaching back to 1846, when the parish began in North Barrens west of town. Its early history includes a log church on the grounds of Mount Thabor Cemetery, a later frame church on Pierson Avenue, and the current Pierson Street church, dedicated in 1925 by Bishop Peter J. Muldoon. The parish also has a long history of Catholic education, with a school opened in 1927 under the Dominican Sisters of Springfield. For children and families, its Religious Education program includes weekly classes from preschool through 7th grade, Family Faith Formation, and a Home Study option.
