About First United Methodist Church of Lockport
First United Methodist Church of Lockport has served the Lockport, Illinois community since 1838, when Rev. William S. Chrissey organized the first group of Methodist worshippers. The congregation, which has grown from its original 13 members to a vibrant faith community, is housed in a building whose cornerstone was laid in 1956, with the original limestone church thoughtfully repurposed as an educational building. The church is deeply committed to welcoming and affirming all people regardless of race, nationality, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or economic status. Beyond Sunday worship, First United Methodist Church actively serves the broader community through ministries including the Circle of Love diaper program, support for the FISH Food Pantry, the annual CROP Hunger Walk, senior fellowship, and partnerships with MorningStar Mission in Joliet.
