About Lutheran Child & Family Services
Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois is a faith-based social services organization rooted in Lutheran tradition since 1873, when several Lutheran churches established an orphan home in northern Illinois. Today, LCFS operates as the second-largest community-based child welfare agency in the state, with more than 400 employees serving across 16 locations. The organization is dedicated to protecting children, strengthening families, and building futures for those who have experienced trauma through foster care, adoption, counseling, preventative services, and youth emergency shelter. Called to serve all of God's people regardless of faith, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or gender identity, LCFS embodies a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable approach grounded in Judeo-Christian values of mercy, compassion, and lasting change. For 150 years, this ministry has strengthened the circle of support for vulnerable children and families across Illinois.
