Temple Israel Inc is a Reform Jewish congregation located in Gary, Indiana, serving the Miller Beach and Northwest Indiana communities for over 114 years. The temple is an inclusive community dedicated to promoting Jewish values, religious enrichment, and social justice. Members gather for Friday evening Shabbat services at 7:30 pm, led by the Rabbi twice monthly and by lay leaders on other weeks, with each service tailored to the diversity of the congregation. Beyond worship, Temple Israel fosters community through interfaith activities, including their well-attended Passover Peace and Justice Seder, and maintains the Gan Shalom garden in the temple's backyard where community members cultivate crops together. The congregation welcomes all people regardless of religious background, ethnicity, or gender, and is proud to support all couples, including LGBTQ+ couples, in marriage ceremonies.
