About St Peter Claver House
St. Peter Claver Catholic Worker in South Bend is a community of lay men and women dedicated to living out Catholic social teaching and the works of mercy in the tradition established by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin. Since 2003, the community has maintained houses of hospitality at 515 and 518 S. St. Joseph Street in downtown South Bend, welcoming guests off the street with no set length of stay. Guided by principles of communitarianism, personalism, and active nonviolence, the community serves those on the margins of society through direct aid and accompaniment. Beyond residential hospitality, St. Peter Claver operates Our Lady of the Road, offering showers, laundry, meals, and community space on Friday and Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings. The community gathers for Mass every Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm in their Chapel of the Holy Spirit, often preceded by a potluck dinner.
