About Friends Meeting Quaker
Friends Meeting Quaker in Ames is an open and welcoming faith community rooted in the principles of the Religious Society of Friends. The meeting gathers for unprogrammed (silent) worship on Sunday mornings, seeking direct communion with God or the Divine Spirit through quiet expectation and contemplative listening. Members and visitors may experience vocal ministry—brief, spirit-led messages shared by those moved to speak—within an atmosphere of spiritual equality and discernment. The Quaker tradition emphasizes seeing that of God in every person, which motivates the community's commitment to simplicity, peace, non-violence, social justice, and environmental stewardship. The meeting welcomes people from all spiritual backgrounds and offers both in-person and virtual participation for those unable to attend on site.
