About St Matthew's Church
St. Matthew’s Church is a Catholic parish in Cedar Rapids with roots dating to August 1922, when Father Daniel P. Mulcahy was assigned to help begin the parish. A combined brick church-school-rectory was completed and dedicated in 1926, and the Sisters of Mercy have staffed the school from the beginning and continue to be part of its faculty. The parish has celebrated 100 years of spiritual guidance in the community. Its mission is to be “Fully alive in Christ,” joyfully transforming lives through sacraments, prayer, and action. Parish life includes youth group and small groups.
