About Canticle
The Canticle, located at 841 Thirteenth Avenue North in Clinton, Iowa, has been home to the Sisters of St. Francis since 1997. Named after St. Francis of Assisi's inspirational Canticle of the Creatures, this community of approximately 25 sisters is grounded in the Franciscan charism of ongoing conversion and active nonviolence. The sisters welcome visitors to explore the grounds, which feature a reflection pond, shrine to Mary, memorial walk, orchard, and prairie woodland. The community hosts spiritual retreats, film screenings, lectures, and social justice programs throughout the year. Visitors are invited to retreat, refresh, and renew their Franciscan spirit while sitting lightly upon the earth and experiencing the natural beauty surrounding this contemplative space.
