About Our Lady of Grace Grotto
Our Lady of Grace Grotto is a remarkable spiritual landmark in West Burlington, Iowa, built entirely from donated rocks and geodes beginning in 1929 by two Benedictine priests and dedicated on July 13, 1931. The grotto's domed interior features a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and sparkles with quartz crystals from geodes, with contributions of materials received from every state and many foreign nations, including the Holy Land. As part of the Divine Mercy Parish, the grotto continues to serve as a peaceful visitor attraction maintained by dedicated volunteers from the community. The site reflects the deep Catholic tradition of Marian devotion and communal stewardship that characterizes the parishes in the Burlington and West Burlington area, which trace their roots back to the 1800s.
