First United Methodist Church of Alexandria has served the heart of the Garden District since 1847, carrying nearly two centuries of worship, service, and community resilience. The church traces its roots to early 1800s Methodism under Rev. John Harmon and has grown from a small congregation into a vibrant faith community. Today, First UMC offers two distinct Sunday worship experiences: a contemporary service at 8:30 AM featuring live praise music and a traditional service at 11 AM with hymns and liturgy, both centered on weekly Holy Communion. Beyond worship, the church engages the community through adult discipleship, family ministries, and outreach programs, while also providing creative spiritual expression through art ministry and centering prayer. Led by Senior Pastor Rev. Kennon Pickett and a dedicated team of pastoral and support staff, the church invites all to experience healing, welcoming spaces where strangers become family.
