About Mount Zion Baptist Church
Mount Zion Baptist Church is one of the oldest churches organized in Nashville, Tennessee, founded in 1866 just three years after the Emancipation Proclamation. The church was established by Reverend Jordan Bransford and a group of inspired worshippers, and the original 1905 edifice remains at 1112 Jefferson Street. Under the leadership of Bishop Joseph W. Walker III since 1992, Mount Zion has grown from 175 members to several thousand, expanding to multiple campuses throughout the Nashville area. The church describes itself as a Word-centered, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural ministry dedicated to evangelizing the lost, equipping believers, and providing holistic ministry to the community. Bishop Walker's vision emphasizes studying God's Word and worshiping in spirit and truth, with a commitment to the spirit of excellence and serving as an oasis of hope within Nashville and globally.
