About First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Hammond is a Disciples of Christ congregation that has served the community for more than 70 years as a welcoming, inclusive faith community. Rooted in the belief that God meets every person where they are, the church opens its doors each Sunday at 11:00 AM to all seekers, regardless of background or circumstance. Beyond worship, the church actively engages in service and community life, hosting groups that support adults with developmental disabilities, people in addiction recovery, seniors, and students, while also providing meals and assistance to neighbors in need. The church's historic Mid-Century Modern campus, designed by renowned architect John Desmond and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves not only as a spiritual gathering place but also as a cultural hub hosting concerts, theatrical productions, lectures, and community events. Visitors will find a warm, welcoming atmosphere where faith, service, and the arts intersect in a shared commitment to being present for everyone who enters.

Dress Code: Dress is comfortable and casual. Service Format: Services are warm and welcoming and typically last about one hour; children are welcome to participate in worship with parents or in a child-friendly "Prayground" space; all are welcome to receive communion. Visitor Tips: Parking is available on-street along East Charles Street and North Cherry Street, in the lot behind the church, and in the City Hall parking lot across the street; the church is accessible with ramps on the north side and from the back parking lot.
