About Church of the Holy Cross
Church of the Holy Cross is an Episcopal parish located in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana, with roots reaching back to 1954 when 126 members of St. Mark's established the congregation to maintain a Christian presence and ministry in the inner city. Today, the church remains committed to its founding mission of service, with a particular focus on ministering to homeless neighbors through Holy Cross Hope House and partnering with other organizations to assist the poorest of the poor in the Shreveport and Bossier City area. The parish describes itself as an inclusive Christian community that nurtures faith, encourages service, and embodies social and environmental justice, welcoming all people especially LGBTQ+ individuals, the homeless, the stranger, and anyone in need. With multiple weekly services including Sunday Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., weekday morning prayer and communion, and daily online evening prayers, Holy Cross offers both traditional liturgical worship and accessible entry points for new visitors. Dress Code: Come dressed in what you feel comfortable wearing; you'll see people in shorts, jeans, suits, and everything in between. Service Format: The 11 a.m. Sunday service typically lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes; the 9 a.m. service is about thirty minutes. Service leaflets are provided and include everything needed to follow along, with references to the Book of Common Prayer and Hymnal. Visitor Tips: Children of any age are welcome; all baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion, and unbaptized visitors may come forward for a blessing by crossing your arms over your chest.
