About First Church in Belfast UCC
First Church in Belfast, United Church of Christ, is a historic congregation founded in 1796 and now recognized as an Open and Affirming community that welcomes people of all backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, and family structures into its full life and ministry. Located on Church Street in downtown Belfast, Maine, the church maintains a 200-year spiritual legacy while actively engaging in contemporary service and justice work rooted in the prophet Micah's call to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. Worship services are held every Sunday at 10 a.m., with options for both in-person gathering and online participation via Zoom. The congregation offers child care, youth and adult choirs, religious education programs, and monthly community meals that serve both spiritual and practical needs. The church building itself, constructed in 1818 in the style of Asher Benjamin and home to a historic Paul Revere bell and Stevens Tracker organ, stands as a National Register landmark and a welcoming spiritual home for visitors at any stage of their faith journey.
