About First Congregational Church
First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, has served the South Portland community and greater Portland area since 1733, when it was established as the Second Parish of Falmouth to serve early European settlers. Today, the church is a large, progressive congregation of approximately 550 adult members widely known as "The Church on Meetinghouse Hill." The community describes itself as welcoming to all, seeking to follow Jesus' teachings, pursue justice, and live God's love. Led by Senior Pastor Alison J. Buttrick Patton and Associate Pastor Stephen Savage, the church offers varied programs and ministries, including music ensembles, faith formation, community engagement, and crisis ministry. Visitors are invited to experience a faith community committed to flourishing creation and racial and environmental justice.
