About Bethel A M E
Bethel AME Church is a faith-rooted, Black-led, multigenerational congregation located in Boston that was founded in 1988 by Rev. Drs. Ray and Gloria Hammond. The church exists at the intersection of worship, justice, and deep community, combining spiritual formation with social action through powerful worship experiences, youth and family ministry, wellness initiatives, and grassroots advocacy. Bethel serves the greater Boston area with a vision to meet people where they are spiritually and practically, walking alongside them toward purpose, growth, and liberation. The congregation welcomes all seekers—whether new to church, returning after a break, or looking for authentic community rooted in radical faith and relentless justice.

Dress Code: Come as you are; wear whatever makes you comfortable, whether your Sunday best or jeans and a t-shirt. Service Format: Sunday services at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM feature worship, with childcare available for ages 2.9–11 on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays (excluding summer July–August); no check-in required, and greeters are available to help visitors find their way. Visitor Tips: Parking is available at the Youth Center (84 Wachusett Street) and on nearby streets; fill out a visitor card upon arrival to be welcomed properly; Wednesday night Bible study via Zoom and other ministry gatherings occur throughout the week.
