About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with deep roots in service and community care, tracing its origins to seventeenth-century France and establishing its presence in Philadelphia in 1847. The community comprises approximately 500 sisters who live and work across twelve states, driven by their founding charism of unioning love—connecting neighbor with neighbor and all people with God. Since their arrival in America, the sisters have ministered in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community services, embodying their commitment to spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Their motherhouse is located in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, and they remain dedicated to addressing urgent challenges facing the church and world, particularly the needs of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable.
