About Sisters of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation of more than 500 sisters with deep roots tracing back to seventeenth-century France and a presence in the Springfield, Massachusetts area. Founded on the principle of uniting "neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God," the sisters have a long history of responding to urgent community needs through education, healthcare, and service to the poor and marginalized. Their charism emphasizes incarnating love and addressing the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The congregation, which arrived in Philadelphia in 1847 and has since spread throughout the United States, continues its mission of striving to unite all people with God and one another through their various ministries and partnerships.
