About St Florian
St. Florian Roman Catholic Parish was founded in 1907 to serve Polish immigrants in Hamtramck and remains a beacon of faith and community after more than 120 years. The current church building, constructed between 1926 and 1928, was designed by renowned Boston architect Ralph Adams Cram and won the American Architect Award in 1929, featuring striking Gothic architecture with twin spires, stained glass windows depicting Polish saints, and ornate altars decorated with gold leaf. Today the parish serves over 500 families of many ethnic backgrounds, including Polish, Albanian, Asian, and other communities, while preserving elements of Polish heritage through worship, cultural events like the annual Strawberry Festival and Polish Soup Festival, and Polish-language classes. The parish is staffed by the Society of Christ, a missionary congregation dedicated to serving Polish communities worldwide, and offers five weekly Masses supported by devoted volunteers and active ministries including the Adoramus contemporary music group.
