About Evangelist Baptist Church
Evangelist Baptist Church in Melvindale is an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church with roots in the community dating to November 1961, when Rev. Willard Nance founded the congregation in a middle school gymnasium. The church broke ground on its current building in April 1964 and began services there in June 1965. Rev. Nance also led a weekly thirty-minute radio ministry called “The Revival Hour.” In January 2010, Evangelist Baptist merged with Downriver Baptist of Wyandotte, and Pastor Thurman Holmes became pastor of the newly combined church.
