About Parchment United Methodist Church
Parchment United Methodist Church is a welcoming congregation rooted in the community since 1912, when the Riverside Sunday School was organized. Founded by city founder Jacob Kindleberger in 1924 as part of his vision that every town needed a church, PUMC has maintained a strong commitment to community engagement and active ministry throughout its history. The church endured a significant fire in 2006 that damaged the narthex, but the congregation came together through a pledge program to rebuild and expand, reopening in 2008 with new facilities including a gymnasium and expanded worship spaces. Today, under Pastor Joe Shaler's leadership, the church continues its mission to welcome all people with the message "Come as you are! We welcome you, we love you, and offer HOPE!" The congregation emphasizes family-friendly worship, small group fellowships, and community outreach including monthly Fresh Food Distribution and various volunteer opportunities.
