About St John The Baptist of HUGO
St. John the Baptist in Hugo has deep roots in the Catholic history of the area, beginning with a parish established in 1854 to serve French-Canadian settlers in eastern Anoka County. A log church was built in 1855 and replaced in 1859, and Fr. Joseph Goiffon served as pastor from 1861 to 1891, overseeing completion of a third church in 1870. After a fire in 1900, the present church was built in 1904. St. John the Baptist was established in Hugo in 1901, and in 2012 it merged with St. Genevieve into one parish, with St. Genevieve as the receiving parish.
