About St George Catholic Church
St. George Catholic Church in Long Lake has served as a vibrant spiritual community since its founding in 1916, when local Catholics petitioned Father George Scheffold to establish a parish in their town. Named in honor of Father Scheffold and Saint George, the patron saint of the Christian faith, the church has grown from its original twelve families to over three hundred families today. The current church building, constructed in 1964, features a distinctive cruciform design influenced by Vatican II reforms, with seating for nearly 800 people arranged around a central altar. The parish embraces a welcoming, inclusive spirit, offering Mass in both English and Spanish, and maintains an active community through numerous ministries, religious education programs, and service organizations including the Women's Council and Knights of Columbus. St. George remains dedicated to its founding mission of building a Christ-centered community through education, liturgy, and prayer.
