About Sisters of Saint Joseph
Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation of more than 500 religious sisters located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as part of a broader American presence spanning twelve states. Rooted in seventeenth-century France and established in Philadelphia in 1847, the congregation carries forward a charism of uniting neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God through spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The sisters have ministered in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community services, responding generously to urgent social challenges and the needs of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Visitors are invited to learn about their mission of unioning love and their commitment to nonviolence as a gospel witness, and may request prayers for personal intentions.
