About Society Of The Divine Word
The Society of the Divine Word, founded in 1875 by St. Arnold Janssen, is the largest Roman Catholic order focused on missionary work. This parish in Bay Saint Louis represents the organization's presence in North America, which has grown significantly since the first missionary arrived in 1895. The Society operates through a globally distributed network of over 250 men in the Chicago Province alone, bringing together an ethnically diverse community from 27 countries speaking more than 20 languages. Rooted in the value of prophetic dialogue, the parish embodies a commitment to understanding communities, listening to their needs, and demonstrating God's love through meaningful service. Visitors are welcome to experience the faith and welcoming spirit that characterizes this missionary community.
