About Providence Missionary Baptist
Providence Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3400 U.S. Highway 82 East in Greenwood, Mississippi, has been serving the community since its founding in January 1936 by Reverend Elijah J. Washington. The church relocated to its current 10-acre facility in 2005, which features a spacious sanctuary, adequate classrooms, and office space designed to serve the congregation and community. Under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Jessie Payne, Jr., Providence has emphasized youth ministry, education, and community involvement, with members excelling academically and athletically while contributing to the local community. The congregation welcomes visitors with the message that "Everybody is Somebody" at a church reaching up to God and reaching out to mankind. Sunday services include Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship from 10:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and the church also offers weekly opportunities for prayer, Bible study, and choir rehearsal throughout the week.
