About Mount Helm Baptist Church
Mount Helm Baptist Church is a historically black urban Baptist congregation located in downtown Jackson, Mississippi, with deep roots as the first African-American congregation in the city. Welcoming people of every culture, color, class, and creed, the church is committed to holistic ministry that forms minds through teaching, ignites hearts through vibrant worship and prayer, and mobilizes hands through community service. The congregation follows five core commitments they call the Five Ships: faithful stewardship, intentional fellowship, bold leadership, life-changing worship, and costly discipleship. Dress Code: When you visit Mount Helm you'll see folks wearing their Sunday's best, and others dressed more casually; the church welcomes modest dress whether three-piece suits or jeans, dresses with church hats or blouses with khakis. Service Format: Worship services feature a historic hymn and anthem singing tradition combined with gospel songs, welcoming God's presence in various ways from classical to contemporary praise as the Spirit leads. Visitor Tips: Sunday School begins at 9:30am with Sunday Worship at 11am; children are welcome in worship or in Children's Church; visitors of any Christian denomination or faith background are warmly invited, and the church encourages all to join in this voyage of spiritual growth and community transformation.
