About Old St Vincent's Catholic Church
Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church is a historic Catholic church in Cape Girardeau with roots reaching back to 1833, when Father John Timon celebrated Mass in a warehouse that became the first temporary church. The present church was completed in 1853 on the original site of the Red House and was consecrated by Bishop Kendrick of St. Louis. Its architecture is described as English Gothic Revival, and it was declared a Religious Cultural Center by Bishop Bernard Law in 1977. A small museum in the back of the church preserves historical artifacts connected to its long story.
