About Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry
Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry is a community-based organization rooted in the Lutheran tradition, serving the Kansas City area since 1971. Born from the collaborative vision of pastors and lay members across multiple Lutheran denominations, MLM operates with the mission to help families and individuals break the cycle of poverty with dignity and respect. The ministry provides a range of services including rent and utility assistance, food pantry support, housing stability programs, and financial opportunity centers across Jackson, Clay, and Wyandotte counties. Guided by the vision to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God, MLM partners with 48 Lutheran congregations throughout the bi-state region to serve those experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and financial hardship. The organization welcomes volunteers and donors who share its commitment to supporting the poor, elderly, and disabled in the Kansas City community.
