About Sisters of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic religious congregation with deep historical roots tracing back to 17th century France. Founded in 1650 in Le Puy, France, the congregation arrived in America in the 1830s and established their Philadelphia presence in 1847. Currently comprising approximately 500 members, the Sisters dedicate themselves to their founding charism of unioning love—connecting neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God—through ministries in education, healthcare, social services, and spiritual support. Their witness to the Gospel includes advocacy for nonviolence, care for the poor and marginalized, and commitment to addressing urgent social challenges.
